This year, 2010, Dungey made the highly-anticipated jump to the 450 class and won five times (Phoenix, Anaheim2, Atlanta, Dallas and St. Louis). Just recently Dungy earned the titles of 2010 Supercross Champion and 2010 World Supercross Champion. Dungey becomes one of the only two riders in history to capture the premier class championship as a rookie.
Ryan Dungey is only one of a handful of riders in recent history to transfer straight from amateur racing directly to a factory team (Makita Suzuki). Other notable first-year factory riders include James Stewart, Travis Pastrana and Davi Millsaps.
His story is almost too good to be true. He was recruited by motocross legend and current Makita Suzuki team manager Roger DeCoster, who enlisted Dungey’s services after one impressive riding session in June of 2006. DeCoster and 15-time Supercross/Motocross champion Ricky Carmichael have taken Dungey “under their wing” and have had a major impact in his rapid progression at the elite level.

In three years, Dungey won 18 total races in both Monster Energy Supercross and the Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship. In 2009, he experienced a breakout season, fulfilling his dreams of winning championships as a professional by capturing the Monster Energy Supercross Western Regional title as well as the Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship 250 class crown. To top off the most memorable year of his life, Dungey led Team USA to its fifth straight victory at the Motocross of Nations in Italy and was named 2009 Rider of the Year by both Transworld Motocross and Racer X Illustrated.
